Definition

A DNA Chip is a high-end, American-made circuit board that acts as the “brain” inside a VapeMod“>vape mod. Designed by Evolv Vapor, it precisely controls power delivery, temperature, battery life and safety features. Unlike basic chips, a DNA board lets you fine-tune every puff—from soft MTL draws to hard-hitting DTL clouds—while protecting against Hit“>dry hit, short circuits and over-discharge. The result is smoother flavour, longer coil life and repeatable performance that disposable vapes can’t match.

Technical Details

At the heart of every DNA board is a 32-bit ARM processor that samples the coil 1000 times per second. Power is regulated with Buck-Boost DC conversion, allowing stable output from 0.2 V to 9 V regardless of battery level. Standard specs include 1 W–200 W variable wattage, 200 °F–600 °F (93 °C–315 °C) temperature sensing via nickel, titanium or stainless-steel coils, and ±2 % resistance accuracy down to 0.1 Ω. Data is stored in 8 MB of onboard memory, enough for 250 personalised “profiles” that remember your ideal sweet spot for each DripTip“>drip tip or dual-coil build. Evolv offers several variants—DNA 60 for compact MTL tubes, DNA 250C for dual-battery DTL box mods—each firmware-upgradeable through the companion EScribe software on Windows or Mac.

Usage & Tips

  • Start with EScribe: Plug your mod into a PC, run the Setup Wizard, and enter coil material and resistance to get instant, safe presets.
  • Lock your resistance: While the coil is at room temperature, fire once then lock ohms; this prevents temperature drift and dry hit.
  • Use genuine batteries: High-drain 18650/21700 cells with ≥25 A CDR keep voltage sag low and preserve the board’s accurate wattage delivery.
  • Clean the 510:E-liquid build-up can foul the spring-pin and throw off resistance readings—wipe weekly with isopropyl alcohol.
  • Update firmware: Evolv periodically releases patches that add features (Replay mode, boost/Preheat curves) and tighten battery efficiency.

Evolv released the first DNA chip in 2010, revolutionising vaping by bringing lab-grade temperature control to consumer devices. Early DNA 20 boards capped at 20 W, but rapid iterations—DNA 30, DNA 200, DNA 250C—pushed power while refining safety.
