Mini Tank – What is it in Vaping?
Definition
A Mini Tank is a compact, refillable atomiser designed for MTLvaping. Measuring roughly 14–18 mm in diameter and holding 1.5–3 ml of e-liquid, it screws onto most Mods or Mechanical Mods via a 510 connection. Intended for discreet flavour chasing and nicotine satisfaction, the mini tank uses small, low-wattage Coil“>Mesh Coil or standard wire coils, producing a tight draw that mimics the sensation of smoking a traditional cigarette.
Technical Details
Mini tanks operate with bottom-fed wicking: e-liquid travels through small juice ports to a vertically mounted coil wrapped in Cotton“>organic cotton. Airflow is restricted via 1–3 mm inlet holes positioned under the coil, generating the classic MTL draw. Typical specifications:
- Capacity: 1.5 ml (TPD-compliant) up to 3 ml with bubble glass
- Resistance“>Coil resistance: 0.6–1.2 Ω, optimised for 8–18 W
- Threading: 510, 22 mm max diameter
- Fill method: Top-slide or threaded cap
Common variations include sub-ohm mini versions with slightly larger wicking ports for 50/50 or high-VG juice, and ceramic coil editions that extend coil life and heighten flavour clarity.
Usage & Tips
- Priming:Drip 3–4 drops directly onto a fresh coil, then fill the tank and wait 5 minutes to avoid dry hits.
- Power settings: Match wattage to coil rating; exceeding 20 W can burn cotton quickly.
- Leak prevention: Keep the tank at least one-third full; low juice levels can cause gurgling and spit-back.
- Battery life: With coils drawing 8–12 W, a 1000 mAh built-in mAhmod will last most users a full day.
- Safety: Always check 510 pin protrusion before using on a Mechanical Mod to prevent hard shorts.
History & Context
Mini tanks emerged around 2014 as regulators capped tank sizes to 2 ml in the EU TPD. Manufacturers responded by shrinking atomisers while retaining flavour quality, giving Australian vapers discreet, compliant options that pair perfectly with high-nicotine salts and compact pod-style mods.
