Tower Tank – What is it in Vaping?

Definition

A Tower Tank is an ultra-tall, high-capacity vape tank designed to hold significantly more e-liquid than standard glass or plastic reservoirs. Resembling a slim “tower” that threads directly onto a mod, it usually sits flush with box-mod edges yet extends upward 40–60 mm, delivering 6–10 mL of juice storage. Its purpose is to minimise refills for heavy vapers, long road-trips, or high-wattage builds that guzzle liquid, while still offering standard 510 compatibility, top-fill convenience and compatibility with most sub-ohm stock coils or mesh strips.

Technical Details

Tower Tanks achieve extra capacity through a straight, food-grade PCTG or borosilicate glass tube up to 28 mm in diameter, capped by a reinforced top and base chassis. Internally, a conventional chimney stack channels vapour, but the chimney length is extended so coil heads sit lower, keeping the centre of gravity close to the mod. Most units accept manufacturer-specific push-fit coils (0.15–0.4 Ω kanthal, stainless-steel or Wire“>Titanium Wire options) and feature four massive wicking ports to feed chain-vaping. Adjustable bottom airflow (dual 10 mm × 2 mm slots) cools the coil despite the height, preventing Temperature Control (TC) issues. Variants include 7 mL “mini-towers,” 10 mL “mega-towers,” and bubble-glass sleeved editions that shorten height while preserving capacity. All are EU TPD-compliant when sold with a silicone reducer plug.

Usage & Tips

  • Prime new coils thoroughly; the tall column can create a vacuum—take a few dry draws with airflow closed before first fire.
  • When topping up, slide the Top Fill cap only halfway to release pressure and avoid flooding.
  • Clean condensation weekly: remove the tank, run warm water through the chimney, then dry upside-down for 30 min.
  • Prevent glass breakage by installing the included silicone bumper or vape band when transporting.
  • High-nic or high-PG liquids can intensify Hit“>Throat Hit due to longer vapour path—drop nicotine strength by 3 mg if it feels harsh.

History & Context

Tower Tanks emerged around 2018 when Australian cloud-chasers demanded longer sessions without carrying bottles. Manufacturers stretched standard 24 mm tanks upward rather than outward, dodging import size restrictions and creating the first true “tower” profile that balanced capacity with pocketability.
