Dual Post Deck – What is it in Vaping?
Definition
A Dual PostDeck is the build platform inside an RDA (Rebuildable Dripping Atomiser) or RTA (Rebuildable Tank Atomiser) that features two vertical posts—one positive, one negative—secured to the base. Each post has one or more holes (or slots) that accept coil leads, letting builders install a dual coil setup without awkward bending or trimming. By anchoring both ends of two coils in opposing posts, the deck creates a balanced electrical path, maximising surface area for vapour production while keeping installation simple for Australian vapers moving beyond disposable vapes.
Technical Details
Dual-post decks are usually milled from 304 or 316 stainless steel, with post centres spaced 8–10 mm apart to accommodate 2.5–3.5 mm inner-diameter coils. Most contemporary versions use 2.5–3 mm post holes or 4 mm clamp slots, accepting 20–24 GA Kanthal, Ni80 or stainless-steel wire. The positive post is isolated by a PEEK or Insulator“>Ultem insulator rated to 200 °C, while the negative post is integrated into the deck for grounding. Variants include:
- Standard dual post – single hole per post, suits round wire.
- Clamp-style dual post – top-mounted flat clamps, ideal for flat or Clapton wire.
- Offset dual post – staggered heights to shorten leg length and reduce ramp-up.
Airflow is typically side-fed through 2–3 mm slots aimed at coil mid-points, giving excellent flavour for both MTL and DTL (Direct to Lung) draws.
Usage & Tips
When building, trim each coil lead to 4.5–5 mm before insertion so the coil sits level with airflow slots; this prevents dry hits and hot legs. Tighten screws clockwise only until snug—over-torquing will shear soft wire or strip the post. Space coils 1–2 mm from the post walls to avoid shorts. Wick with moderate tension: too tight restricts Juice Flow”>juice flow, too loose causes spitting. Pulse coils at 20 W to check for even glow, then pinch straggling wraps with ceramic tweezers. Always verify resistance on a Mod“>regulated mod before vaping; dual-coil builds halve individual coil resistance, so two 0.4 Ω coils read 0.2 Ω—stay within your battery’s amp limit for safe sub-ohm vaping.
History & Context
Dual-post decks emerged around 2014 as cloud-chasing culture grew in Australia and the US. They replaced fragile three-post designs, offering quicker builds and lower post resistance. Today they remain the go-to platform for flavour chasers who have moved past disposable vapes but still want a simple, dependable deck.
