E-Cigar – What is it in Vaping?

Definition

An E-Cigar is a battery-powered vaping device designed to replicate the look, feel and draw of a traditional cigar while delivering flavoured vapour instead of tobacco smoke. Unlike a standard E-Cigarette or eGo Style pen, an E-Cigar is usually larger, wrapped in brown cigar paper or leaf, and shaped to mimic a stogie or Cuban. It is filled with E-Liquid (also called E-Juice) that is heated by an internal coil to create vapour for mouth-to-lung or direct-to-lung inhalation. The purpose is to offer cigar aficionados a tobacco-free alternative that still satisfies the ritual, hand-feel and flavour profile of premium cigars.

Technical Details

Inside an E-Cigar you’ll find a rechargeable lithium-ion cell (commonly 650–1100 mAh), a micro-processor, an airflow sensor, and a cartomiser or clearomiser with a 1.2–2.0 Ω coil. E-Liquid capacity ranges from 1.5 mL in disposable models to 6 mL in refillable versions. Output is generally fixed at 3.3–4.2 V, giving 6–12 W—enough warmth to mimic cigar smoke without overheating the tobacco-flavoured E-Juice. Variations include:

  • Disposable E-Cigar: pre-filled, single-use, 300–800 puffs.
  • Refillable E-Cigar: replaceable coil and Port“>refill port, compatible with high-VG or nic-salt E-Liquids.
  • E-Shisha Cigar: wider bore, often colourful, optimised for fruit flavours and bigger clouds.

Usage & Tips

Prime a new E-Cigar by taking 3–4 gentle primer puffs before full inhalation; this saturates the coil and prevents dry hits. Use a 60–70 VG E-Liquid for balanced flavour and wicking. If vapour tastes burnt, replace the cartomiser or coil—most last 5–10 mL. Store upright to avoid leaking, and recharge with the supplied micro-USB cable; avoid car chargers that spike voltage. Because the device resembles a real cigar, be mindful of vaping etiquette in public areas where tobacco smoking is banned.

History & Context

E-Cigars emerged around 2009 as cigar lounges sought tobacco-free options for indoor use. Early models used disposable cartomisers; today’s versions feature USB-C charging, mesh coils and LED ash tips, bridging the gap between E-Cigarette convenience and traditional cigar culture.
