Definition
Juice Hole is the precision-drilled opening in a vapecoil’s wick-housing that allows e-liquid to flow from the tank or pod’s juice well onto the absorbent material—usually Cotton“>Japanese cotton—wrapped around the heating wire. By regulating how quickly liquid saturates the wick, the juice hole prevents both flooding (oversaturation) and dry hits (undersaturation). Its diameter, number and placement directly influence flavour clarity, coil longevity and the maximum juice capacity that can be vaporised per puff.
Technical Details
Juice holes are laser-cut or CNC-drilled to tolerances of ±0.05 mm. Entry-level stock coils typically carry 2–4 oval holes of 1.2 mm–1.8 mm; mesh strips may use six micro-holes of 0.8 mm to keep up with faster wicking demands. Rebuildable decks offer juice channels—elongated slots—instead of round holes, giving advanced users control over flow rate by thinning or fluffing cotton. High-VG liquids (>70 % VG) require larger or additional holes to offset viscosity, while nicotine-salt pods keep holes sub-1 mm to curb oversaturation with thin 50/50 juice. Placement matters: side-facing holes reduce leakage when the tank is laid flat, whereas bottom holes maximise feed efficiency in squonk mods.
Usage & Tips
- Priming:Drip 3–4 drops of juice directly onto the coil’s juice holes before first use to avoid burning dry cotton.
- Chain-vaping: Pause 5–10 s between puffs; overly frequent draws can outpace the juice hole feed, causing dry hits.
- Clog fix: If flavour drops or the hole looks dark, rinse the coil in warm water, dry-burn lightly and gently brush the juice hole with a soft toothbrush to remove caramelised gunk.
- Safety: Never poke needles or toothpicks into the hole—enlarging it can flood the deck and leak battery-damaging liquid into the device.
History & Context
When clearomisers emerged in 2010, coils relied on a single 1 mm juice hole punched in thin steel. The switch to sub-ohmvaping circa 2014 drove manufacturers to multi-hole and slot designs, matching higher wattage and VG content.
