LDPE Bottle – What is it in Vaping?

Definition

An LDPE bottle is a soft, squeezable plastic container made from Low-Density Polyethylene, widely used in vaping to store and dispense e-liquid (also called VapeJuice“>vape juice). Its semi-transparent, flexible walls allow users to squeeze out precise drops without spills, making refilling vape tanks, pods, and drippers quick and clean. Designed to resist nicotine and flavour corrosion, LDPE bottles are the industry standard for short-fill and nicotine shot packaging across Australia.

Technical Details

LDPE bottles rely on the material’s low-density polymer chains, giving them a Shore A hardness of 40–50 and excellent memory—meaning they spring back after squeezing. Common sizes range from 10 mL (for nicotine shots) to 120 mL (for short-fills). Wall thickness is typically 0.5–0.7 mm, balancing puncture resistance with easy compression. Most feature a narrow 2 mm dispensing tip or removable fine-tip nozzle to minimise leaking. Child-resistant caps (CRC) with a 28 mm thread are standard; some include a built-in LED indicator-compatible tamper-evident band. Variations include:

  • Chubby Gorilla style—rounded shoulders to reduce trapped liquid.
  • Straight-sided cylinder—ideal for labelling and stacking.
  • Squeeze-and-twist cap—lets users seal off airflow to prevent Hit“>lung hit-inducing spills at high altitude.

Usage & Tips

Before first use, rinse with warm water and let air-dry to remove manufacturing residue. Fill to 90 % capacity to allow for expansion in hot climates and reduce leaking. When transferring high-VG juice, warm the bottle slightly so thick liquid flows smoothly without excess low resistance pressure on the tip. Store away from direct sunlight and Battery“>lithium battery compartments to avoid heat degradation. If the tip clogs, snip 1 mm off with clean scissors. Replace bottle every 6–12 months or if the plastic turns cloudy—signs of nicotine oxidation and flavour loss.

History & Context

LDPE bottles entered the vaping scene around 2010, replacing glass vials and HDPE “needle-tip” bottles. Their affordability, safety compliance with TPD and AUS packaging laws, and user-friendly design quickly made them ubiquitous. Today, Australian vendors must supply e-liquid in CRC LDPE bottles under the NIC Regulations 2021, cementing LDPE as the go-to for both DIY mixers and commercial brands.
