PET Bottle – What is it in Vaping?

Definition

A PET bottle is a lightweight, squeezable plastic container made from Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) designed specifically for storing and dispensing PG (Propylene Glycol) and VG (Vegetable Glycerin) e-liquids. Shaped like a miniature laboratory squeeze bottle, it lets vapers refill tanks, pod systems, or rebuildable atomisers with minimal mess. Its soft walls give precise control over drop size, while the narrow tip fits almost any Port“>fill port, making it ideal for both beginners learning to top-up and advanced users mixing DIY juices.

Technical Details

PET bottles are injection-moulded from food-grade, BPA-free PET that resists the mildly corrosive nature of nicotine and flavour concentrates. Standard sizes in Australia are 30 ml, 60 ml, 100 ml, and 120 ml, with 15 ml and 250 ml available for nic shots or bulk bases. Wall thickness averages 0.3–0.5 mm, allowing a firm squeeze without collapsing. Tips are usually 2 mm bore for free-base liquids and 3–4 mm for high-VG or 70/30 blends. Child-resistant caps (CRC) meet AS/NZS 2211 standards and come in two types: twist-off and flip-top. Variants include:

  • Chubby Gorilla – rounded shoulder, no-drip tip
  • Unicorn bottle – tall, slim, fits pockets
  • Needle-tip – ultra-fine 1 mm spout for tight pod ports

Usage & Tips

Before first use, rinse with warm water and air-dry to remove any manufacturing residue. When filling, squeeze gently to avoid air pockets that can cause spit-back or reduced puff count. If thick VG liquid flows slowly, warm the bottle in your hand or place it in a pocket for a minute. Leaks often stem from cross-threaded caps—always align threads and tighten until you feel the second “click” of the CRC. Keep bottles away from direct sunlight and inside temps above 40 °C, as PET softens and may warp. Store high-wattage nicotine salts in amber PET to reduce light degradation.

History & Context

PET entered the vape scene around 2013 when glass dropper bottles proved fragile and heavy for everyday carry. The Australian market quickly adopted “chubby” 60 ml PETs to comply with the 2018 nicotine import regulations, giving users a convenient, child-safe way to decant larger pharmacy-grade nic bases into smaller daily-use bottles.
