Definition
A Rocket Coil is a specialty type of hand-built heating coil used inside RDA, RTA, and RDTA atomisers. It is created by wrapping a thick gauge or multi-core wire into a tight, vertical “rocket” shape that resembles a mini thruster. The design maximises surface area so e-liquid vaporises faster, producing warmer, denser clouds and fuller flavour. Popular among hobbyist vapers who enjoy low-resistance, high-wattage vaping, the Rocket Coil sits on the Deck“>build deck like a small chimney, drawing liquid up through surrounding wicks and converting it to vapour the moment the fire button is pressed.
Technical Details
Most Rocket Coils start with 3-8 core wires (often N80 or SS316L) claptoned or alien-wrapped with a 36-40 gauge outer wire. After fusing, the coil is wrapped around a 2-3 mm rod for 5-7 tight turns, giving a final resistance of 0.09-0.15 Ω (dual setup). The finished coil stands 6-8 mm tall, allowing thick cotton to spiral around it and feed liquid evenly. Variations include the single-core “Mini Rocket” for single-battery mechs and the staggered or helixed “Turbo Rocket” that adds extra grooves to trap juice. Because mass is high, ramp-up above 80 W is normal; many users pre-heat at 100-130 W then drop to 85-95 W for the puff.
Usage & Tips
Mount the Rocket Coil centrally on your RDA posts, with air-holes hitting the lower half to prevent spit-back. Use medium-loose Scottish-roll wicking: thin the tails, fluff, and trim so they just touch the deck—too tight causes dry hits, too loose leaks. Pulse at 25 W to work out hot-spots, pinch evenly with ceramic tweezers. Always verify resistance on a Mod“>regulated mod before vaping; a single Rocket can draw 30-40 A, so only use high-drain 35 A batteries and never exceed your cell’s C-rating. If the ramp feels slow, raise wattage or lower mass by switching to a 3-core variant rather than 6.
