Section – What is it in Vaping?

Definition

A Section is any detachable or fixed part of a vaping device that performs a specific function, such as the battery section, tank section, or squonk section. In vaping terminology, it refers to the modular components that, when assembled, form a complete vape setup. Sections allow users to customise, replace, or upgrade individual parts without buying an entirely new kit, making them essential for both Starter Kit users and advanced builders who demand flexibility.

Technical Details

Sections are engineered with standardised 510 or 810 threading to ensure cross-compatibility between brands. Battery sections typically house one or two 18650/21700 cells, delivering 3.2–4.2 V and up to 30 A continuous discharge in Sub-Ohm applications. Tank sections range from 2 ml TPD-compliant glass to 8 ml bubble reservoirs, constructed from Pyrex or PCTG. Squonk sections integrate a soft silicone or LDPE bottle with 6–10 ml capacity, feeding e-liquid upward through a hollow 510 pin. Variations include top-fill, bottom-fill, and slide-fill mechanisms, while airflow sections offer adjustable slots, honeycomb inserts, or interchangeable pins. Most modern sections incorporate Short Circuit Protection, reverse-polarity safeguards, and gold-plated contacts for minimal voltage drop.

Usage & Tips

Match the Section’s 510 pin protrusion to your mod’s positive tolerance to prevent hard shorts. When swapping between squonk and standard 510 sections, ensure the bottle is empty to avoid spillage. Clean threading weekly with isopropyl alcohol and a soft brush to prevent seizing—especially important after Steeping strong citrus or menthol liquids. If your tank section leaks, check O-ring integrity and confirm coil seating; replace seals every 6–8 weeks. Always lock or power off the device before disassembling any section, and store cells in the battery section only when installed in the mod to reduce accidental discharge.

History & Context

The concept of interchangeable sections emerged in 2011 when early mechanical mod users began mixing copper tubes, brass switches, and Pyrex drippers. By 2015, mainstream manufacturers adopted sectional design with the Joyetech eVic VT, allowing battery and control sections to separate. Today, squonk sections and rebuildable tank sections dominate high-end Australian markets, reflecting a shift toward personalised vaping experiences.
