Three-Post Deck – What is it in Vaping?

Three-Post Deck

Definition

A Three-Post Deck is the build platform inside an RDA (Rebuildable Dripping Atomiser) that features three threaded posts arranged in a triangular pattern. The centre post (positive) and two outer posts (negative) provide secure anchor points for coil legs, letting vapers install either single or dual coils. Designed for ease of use, the three-post layout is a classic starting point for hobbyists who want to customise their tank’s vapour production and Hit“>throat hit without advanced tools.

Technical Details

Each post is drilled with one or two 2–2.5 mm terminal holes to accept 22–24 AWG wire and is separated by 8–10 mm of deck space, giving ample room for 2.5–3 mm inner-diameter coils. The centre post is insulated by a PEEK or ceramic “positive block,” preventing hard shorts. Common variations include the original “triangle” deck, the staggered-post layout that angles screws for easier Top Fill cap clearance, and hybrid designs that add a fourth post for Temperature Control (TC) builds. Most decks are milled from 304 or 316 stainless steel; high-end versions use gold-plated posts to reduce resistance when using exotic Titanium Wire coils.

Usage & Tips

  • Prep: Trim coil legs to the same length (4–5 mm) before inserting—this keeps coils level and prevents hot spots.
  • Wicking: Use enough cotton to fill the Juice Well”>juice well without blocking airflow; fluff tails outward for better saturation.
  • Common Issues: Leads touching the cap? Bend them slightly toward the centre post. Screws backing out? Apply a tiny drop of non-conductive thread-locker.
  • Safety: Always check resistance on a Mod“>regulated mod before firing; ensure the positive post insulator is intact to avoid shorts.

History & Context

The three-post deck debuted in 2013 with the Tobh Atty and quickly became the global standard for entry-level drippers. While newer postless and clamp decks offer more space, the simplicity and low cost of three-post decks keep them popular among Australian builders seeking straightforward flavour builds.
