1.0 Ohm Coil – What is it in Vaping?
Definition
A 1.0 OhmCoil is a replaceable heating element inside a vapetank or pod that has an electrical resistance of exactly one ohm. In simple terms, it sits between your 510 Thread tank and the 18650 Battery (or similar power source) and turns e-liquid into vapour by gently heating it. Because the resistance is relatively high, it runs at lower wattage, making it ideal for mouth-to-lung (MTL) vaping, higher-nicotine or 0mg Nicotine juices, and users who want a cooler, cigarette-like draw.
Technical Details
Electrically, a 1.0 ohm coil is built with thinner wire or more wraps than sub-ohm alternatives, creating higher resistance and therefore less current draw. Typical power ranges are 8–15 W, depending on whether kanthal, stainless-steel, or nichrome wire is used. Manufacturers usually specify the coil’s optimal wattage on the metal casing or packaging. Variants include:
- Vertical or horizontal coil orientation
- Cotton or mesh wicking
- Pre-built press-fit coils for pods or screw-in designs for tanks
- Nic-salt optimised versions rated at 1.0–1.2 Ω

Usage & Tips
Prime a new 1.0 ohm coil by dripping 3–5 drops of e-liquid directly onto the exposed cotton, then fill the tank and allow five minutes for saturation. Start at the lowest recommended wattage and increase in 1 W steps to taste. If you experience dry hits, lower the wattage or open the airflow slightly. For battery life, a single 18650, 21700, or 26650 cell easily lasts a full day at 10–12 W. Always lock your device when pocket-carrying to avoid accidental firing and burnt coils.
History & Context
After the 2014 sub-ohm boom, vapers demanded coils that could handle higher-nicotine and nic-salt e-liquids without excessive vapour.
