800mAh Battery – What is it in Vaping?
Definition
An 800mAh battery is a compact rechargeable power cell rated to deliver 800 milliampere-hours of current, commonly pre-installed in entry-level 510-threadvape pens, pod kits, and disposable devices across Australia. The “mAh” figure tells you how long the battery can supply one milliamp of current before needing a recharge—so 800 mAh roughly equals 800 puffs at one milliamp draw, or about one full day of moderate mouth-to-lung vaping. Its purpose is to provide a lightweight, airline-safe power source that balances portability with enough stamina for casual users, without the bulk of removable 18650, 21700 or 26650 batteries.
Technical Details
Internally, most 800 mAh vape batteries are lithium-ion (Li-ion) or lithium-polymer (Li-po) packs rated at 3.3–3.7 V nominal, stepping up to 3.8–4.2 V under load via a built-in regulator. Continuous discharge current is typically 6–10 A—plenty for the 7–12 W coils found in pods and MTL tanks. Re-charge is handled through an onboard micro-USB or USB-Cport at 0.5–1 A, reaching full capacity in 60–90 min. Because the pack is sealed, there is no removable wrap or venting disk; instead, a small PCB provides over-charge, over-discharge, and short-circuit protection. Variants include slim “stick” styles (Ø 9–11 mm), flat “card” styles for ultra-portables, and integrated disposables that are recycled once the 800 mAh threshold (and paired 0 mg nicotine or nic-salt reservoir) is depleted.
Usage & Tips
- Maximise life: recharge when the LED blinks three times—don’t wait for total cut-off; Li-ion prefers partial cycles.
- Avoid chain-vaping: consecutive long draws >5 s can trip the PCB and temporarily shut the device; space puffs by 20–30 s.
- Fly safe: 800 mAh (0.8 Ah) is well under the 100 Wh airline limit, but pack the device in carry-on and switch it off.
- Clean contacts: once a week wipe the 510-thread top with a dry tissue to prevent e-liquid build-up that can short the positive pin.
- Recycling: when run-time drops below 50 % (roughly 300 full cycles), take the unit to a local Australian B-cycle drop point; do not bin.
History & Context
Early cig-alikes of 2008–2010 shipped with 180–280 mAh Ni-MH cells. When lithium chemistry prices fell circa 2013, Chinese manufacturers doubled capacity without enlarging form factor, standardising 650–900 mAh stick pens. The 800 mAh sweet spot emerged around 2016 as the default for TPD-compliant 2 mL pod kits and remains popular today, bridging the gap between half-day disposables and heavier external-battery box mods.
