Dual Mesh – What is it in Vaping?

Definition

Dual Mesh is a modern coil design that sandwiches two identical mesh strips inside a single atomiser head. The purpose is to multiply the heating surface area compared with traditional single-mesh or wire coils, delivering denser vapour, richer flavour and faster ramp-up without requiring higher wattage. Found in many Vape“>Disposable Vape pods and replaceable coils, Dual Mesh systems let beginner and advanced Australian vapers enjoy DTL (Direct to Lung) clouds that rival rebuildable atomisers while keeping operation simple.

Technical Details

Each Dual Mesh coil uses two layers of precision-etched Kanthal, SS316L or Ni80 mesh, typically 40–60 µm thick and perforated with 0.3–0.4 mm holes. The strips are rolled or pressed into a cylinder, separated by a thin insulating layer or sandwiched around Cotton“>organic cotton. Resistance commonly ranges from 0.15 Ω to 0.4 Ω, with recommended wattage between 40 W and 80 W. Variations include parallel Dual Mesh (side-by-side strips) and stacked Dual Mesh (one above the other); some manufacturers add a third layer (“Triple Mesh”) for even greater surface area. Because the load is split, current draw is lower than a single strip of the same mass, extending coil life and reducing the risk of a Hit“>Dry Hit.

Usage & Tips

  • Priming: Before first use, drip 5–7 drops of e-liquid directly onto each visible mesh face and fill the pod/tank. Wait 5 minutes to saturate the cotton fully.
  • Wattage sweet spot: Start 10 W below the printed range, then increase in 5 W steps until flavour peaks without burning.
  • Common issue:Gurgling or spit-back usually means flooding—clear excess liquid by blowing gently through the Tip“>Drip Tip onto a tissue.
  • Safety: Never exceed the maximum wattage printed on the coil; Dual Mesh can overheat quickly, stressing batteries and shortening lifespan.

History & Context

Single mesh coils debuted around 2017, praised for even heating. In 2019, brands like Freemax and Voopoo introduced Dual Mesh to push flavour without rebuilding, quickly becoming standard in both high-wattage tanks and modern Disposable Vape devices across Australia.
