Definition

Juice Capacity refers to the maximum volume of e-liquid (or simply juice) a vapetank, pod, or cartridge can hold at one time. Expressed in millilitres (mL), it determines how often you must refill your device. A higher juice capacity means longer vaping sessions between top-ups, while a lower capacity keeps the device compact and portable. In rebuildable atomisers, the term also covers the juice well—the shallow reservoir beneath the coil that temporarily stores e-liquid for wicking.

Technical Details

Juice capacity is governed by the internal volume of the tank or pod body, minus the space occupied by the coil, chimney, and wicking medium. Standard measurements range from 2 mL (TPD-compliant EU/AU pods) up to 8 mL in high-capacity sub-ohm tanks. Some rebuildable atomisers add juice channels or deeper juice wells that effectively increase usable capacity by 0.5–1 mL without enlarging the tank itself. Materials—such as borosilicate glass, PCTG plastic, or stainless steel—must resist acidic e-liquids and thermal expansion. Leak-proofing features like silicone gaskets, top-fill systems, and adjustable juice control rings help maintain the stated capacity under varying temperatures and altitudes.

Early 2010 clearomisers held just 1.5 mL. The 2014 “sub-ohm boom” pushed tanks to 5 mL, but the 2017 EU TPD capped retail pods at 2 mL. Australian vapers now choose between TPD-compliant 2 mL pods for stealth vaping and import-friendly 4–8 mL tanks for extended use.
