RDTA – What is it in Vaping?

Definition

An RDTA (Rebuildable Dripping TankAtomizer) is a hybrid vape tank that fuses the flavour intensity of an RDA with the convenience of an RTA. It uses a raised Deck“>build deck where you install your own coils and wicks, while a shallow reservoir beneath the deck holds 2–4 mL of e-liquid. Juice is fed upward to the coils by gravity and capillary action, eliminating the need to drip every few puffs. The result is dense, dripper-grade vapour without constant refilling—perfect for Australian vapers who want big clouds on the go but still enjoy building.

Technical Details

RDTAs centre around a two-post or post-less build deck suspended above a sealed tank section. Stainless-steel wick tails hang 2–3 mm into the liquid; when you inhale, vacuum pressure plus gravity keeps the cotton saturated. Most 24 mm models hold 3 mL, while 26–30 mm versions reach 4–5 mL. Airflow is adjustable via top or side cyclops slots, typically 2 × 7 mm × 2 mm, allowing resistances as low as 0.08 Ω on a regulated mod. Common variations include single-coil flavour machines (e.g., Hussar Legacy) and dual-coil cloud cannons (e.g., Steam Crave Aromamizer). Some newer RDTAs add spring-assisted refill ports or mesh strips for even heating.

Usage & Tips

  • Wicking: Trim cotton so tails just kiss the tank floor—too long causes flooding, too short leads to dry hits.
  • Refill: Close airflow before opening top cap to avoid vacuum loss and leaking.
  • Resistance check: Always pulse and measure resistance on a Mod“>regulated mod before first fire; aim for ≥0.1 Ω on dual-battery devices.
  • Travel: Empty tank before flying or upside-down pocket carry—RDTAs can weep through wick holes under pressure changes.
  • Cleaning: Rinse deck and tank weekly to prevent sweetener gunk; replace wicks every 15–20 mL for best flavour.

History & Context

The first mainstream RDTA, the Genesis-style “Golden Greek” tank, appeared in 2012, but wicking was fiddly. In 2015, the Avocado and Limitless Plus popularised the modern bottom-reservoir design, bridging the gap between drippers and sub-ohms. Today, RDTAs remain a niche favourite among Australian rebuilders who value flavour freedom without TPD pod restrictions.
