Reichholt – What is it in Vaping?

Definition

Reichholt is an Australian-coined nickname for a high-performance Atomizer“>Dripping Atomizer)”>RDA (Rebuildable Dripping Atomizer)coil build that uses two or more strands of low-resistance wire twisted or braided together to create a single, ultra-low resistance coil. The purpose of a Reichholt build is to maximise surface area so that more e-liquid is vaporised at once, delivering dense clouds and intense flavour when “dripped” directly onto the wick. Although the name is slang, the build follows standard Ohm’s-law safety rules and is popular among competitive cloud-chasers and flavour enthusiasts who already understand resistance and battery limits.

Technical Details

A classic Reichholt begins with 2–4 strands of 24–26 gauge Nichrome 80 or stainless-steel wire twisted tightly to a pitch of about 0.5 mm, then wrapped 5–7 times around a 2.5–3 mm rod. The finished coil usually measures 0.08–0.15 Ω per coil, so dual setups land near 0.04–0.08 Ω. Massive surface area (roughly 40–60 mm²) means ramp-up currents can exceed 35 A; therefore vapers pair the build with 30 A+ high-drain 21700 or 20700 cells and mech tubes or high-wattage regulated mods capable of 150–250 W. Variations include flattened “ribbon” Reichholts, staggered Clapton Reichholts, and framed staples, all still grouped under the slang term. Because the build is so low, most users run it only on devices with solid ventilation and reputable batteries.

Usage & Tips

Install the coil high in the RDA deck, aligning the top with the top of the airflow slot to prevent spit-back. Use generous Scottish-roll cotton—tight enough to move the coil slightly when tugged, but not so tight it deforms the wrap. Start at 90–100 W and pulse-fire to check for even glow from centre outward; pinch hotspots gently with ceramic tweezers. When wicking, saturate until the cotton looks almost translucent, then vape until flavour drops and re-drip through the drip-tip. Dry hits are common if you chain-vape; slow your pace or lower wattage 5–10 W. Always verify resistance on a Mod“>regulated mod before firing a mech, and never exceed your battery’s continuous amp rating—ohms law is non-negotiable with a Reichholt.

History & Context

The term surfaced around 2018 in Australian Facebook groups after renowned Melbourne builder “Reich” posted a twisted quad-coil that hit 0.06 Ω. Local vapers dubbed any similarly violent build a “Reichholt,” blending the builder’s handle with the word “bolt.” The style echoes earlier cloud-chasing crazes but remains a badge of honour among down-under dripper fans who prize both flavour and fog.
